Seeing Like a State, 2021
screen print, ink, watercolour on paper, framed
size: varies (approx. 300 x 400mm)
edition: 6, all unique
NZD 750 each (framed)
Annotated title pages from James C. Scott’s Seeing Like A State depict small worlds of simple rule. Germanic pastures, emoting clouds, and anthropomorphic butterflies recall moralistic instructions from childhood –via fable, picture book or fairy tale– on how to be and do good, animate and contradict the thesis “How Certain Schemes to Improve the Human Condition Have Failed”.
