Anto Yeldezian
Drawings, 2022/2023
mixed media
295 x 210mm, 210 x 150mm
edition: 10 (each unique)
NZD 350 unframed
In Anto Yeldezian's recent work images from a myriad of sources are layered on top of one another. Personal, highly specific, images from the artist's family history coalesce with over-circulated media images from conflicts in the Middle East, icons of the Wild West and Disney cartoons, as well as ghosts from history painting and Eastern systems of belief.
These ten drawings, made in the lead up to Monument Valley, develop both a symbolic register and a muscle memory for particular marks and silhouettes. You're invited to an evening matinee in the shadow lands before the main event; large-scale painterly tableau.
Please note: All drawings are supplied unframed. Some drawings are digital scans of layered collage, others are pencil, coloured pencil or acrylic on paper. Almost all of the works are approx. 290 x 210mm except Untitled (Chair) which is 210 x 150mm.
